Hi, nice to meet you!

My name is Sammi Cheung and I am a UX/UI designer and illustrator that believes in creating products that help empower users everyday. I graduated from Binghamton University with a BA in chemistry. Studying science made me love being able to think creatively in order to build new paths in overcoming difficult problems. I was able to cultivate these skills in the healthcare and pharmaceutical field. In these roles I learned that communication and compassion not only made my job easier, but allowed me to connect with each patient on a personal level.

How did you get into design?

During the pandemic I had a lot of time on my hands, which allowed me to rediscover my artistic hobbies. I started drawing on procreate and created an Instagram page to keep my friends and family up to date on my latest doodles. It even lead me to a few freelance projects. Having a creative outlet reminded me of what I had loved as a kid. It felt liberating. This eventually lead me to UI/UX design. I wanted to do something everyday that gave me the ability to express my creativity.

This began my course with Career Foundry. I learned techniques for wireframes, user interviews, prototyping, and much more. The course allowed my passion for inclusive and intuitive design to flourish. My biggest goal as a designer is to create modern, engaging, and user centric interfaces that pave way to meaningful impact. My designs aren’t only a way for me to express myself but a way to showcase user identities, values, and stories.

In my career I look forward to learning from different people in the industry, as well as growing and evolving with new skills and trends. At the moment I am learning more about CSS and HTML. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks!

During my free time I love to illustrate, play animal crossing, and listen to podcasts. Two of my favorite podcasts are Morbid and UI Breakfast. You can’t blame a girl for loving some true crime. If I’m not talking about true crime, my friends and family often find me talking about food and travel. After sharing my life story, I think its only fair if I get to hear a little bit about you! If you have any questions or just want to chat, send me an email or connect with me on LinkedIn!
